Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend. Although spring won’t be around Ohio for a while, the weather warmed up this weekend and it felt amazing. This weekend, a few of my roommates and I rented a cabin in Hocking Hills. I’ve recommended this spot in a few of my previous posts (click here & here!), but I had not actually been there myself. It by far exceeded my expectations and it was one of my favorite weekends in a long time.
The Cabin
The cabin we stayed in was super cute and spacious! There were eleven of us total, and everyone had somewhere to sleep. There were three full-sized beds, a pullout couch, and a futon. Plus three different bathrooms, a completely finished basement, two porches, and a nice sized living room and kitchen.
Our days…
Hocking Hills is super relaxing. I loved waking up to all of the trees and nature. We spent a lot of time in the hot tub and just hanging around the firepit. There was no shortage of frozen pizzas, chips, or beer! It was pretty muddy and rainy this past weekend, so we decided not to hike, but we were still able to enjoy the nicer weather. My personal favorite part of the night was making s’mores by the firepit while enjoying the warmest weather Ohio has experienced in a while.
This was my first time to Hocking Hills, and I learned a lot. Below are a few recommendations for when you plan your trip!
5 Tips for Hocking Hills
Bring board games & things to do
This was something that we slacked on! Next time I rent a cabin with friends, I definitely want to bring board games. It definitely would have been fun to have something to play while we were just hanging during the afternoons.
Bring a swimsuit & extra towels
As I said before, the hot tub was where we spent most of our evenings. Most cabins have them! Because we were such a big group, we quickly went through the towels provided. Bringing your own beach towels can be super helpful.
Take time to hike and enjoy the scenery
If the weather had been nicer, my friends and I would have definitely taken the time to hike. Hocking Hills is absolutely gorgeous, and there are plenty of cool places to explore. Old Man’s Cave is one of the most popular locations!
Plan activities ahead of time
I didn’t think about it prior to arriving, but I would have loved to go zip lining or tour the local brewery had I realized that they were so close! Click here for a link to one of the places that offers zip lining, and click here for a link one of the breweries!
Limit phone usage
Okay, so I wasn’t the best at this because my boyfriend, Josh, wasn’t able to make it and I missed him! However, the wifi wasn’t great and cell reception was poor, so time on phones was limited. The break was much needed—it felt good to take some time away from social media, even if our getaway was only about 40 hours.
This list could go on and on but these are definitely my top 5 recommendations! I had so much fun, and I will definitely be making Hocking Hills an annual trip.
I hope everyone has a great week.
