Hi Everyone! Happy happy Monday! I can’t believe it’s already July. Time is FLYING. Summers always go so fast though, don’t they? I have been incredibly busy with grad school, so I haven’t been able to keep up on the blog as much as I would like to, but I had some spare time this weekend to whip up a quick list of some fun summer activities in Cleveland.
If you are in the area or close by, I would definitely recommend heading up north for an afternoon or weekend to spend some time by the lake, enjoy delicious food, or go hiking at one of our Metroparks! Cleveland in the summertime is everyone’s favorite (I promise). Keep scrolling for the list!
Visit a Local Beach
Numero Uno on my list is a visit to any of Cleveland’s local beaches. My personal favorite is located just a couple miles west of Downtown Cleveland– Edgewater State Park. It was recently renovated just a few years ago, so it looks gorgeous and has a great pavilion with snacks & beach rentals. If you are on the East side of Cleveland, I would recommend Mentor Headlands State Park. It has over a mile-long beach with actual sand (not just tiny rocks!), so it feels like you are really getting away.
Have an evening out on the Lake
Although Cleveland was once known as the mistake on the Lake… things have changed for the better! The city now has a ton of awesome waterfront areas with activities, restaurants, and parks. My friends and I love to hang out at the Flats to grab dinner with a view. East 4th and East 9th are also popular locations with good food and great atmospheres. There are neighborhoods all over Cleveland that I love to go to on the weekends, but in the summer I tend to always want to be by the lake.
Check out a museum or the zoo
Cleveland has an incredible collection of museums. From the Natural History Museum to the Cleveland Museum of Art, there is something for everyone. If that doesn’t float your boat, try out the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo or the Aquarium (located near the Flats!). All of these attractions are conveniently located near great neighborhoods, so you can make a day out of it.
Take a day trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park
I’ve mentioned this in quite a few blog posts before, but Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a hidden gem in Northeast Ohio. With amazing hiking trails, bike paths, and scenic picnic areas, you cannot go wrong spending a sunny day here. Click this link for more information on Ohio’s only national park!
Last but not least is a Northeast Ohio favorite. Although it is technically located in Sandusky, the best amusement park in the country (I’m serious, it was ranked #1 this year!) is only about an hour away from Cleveland. With almost two dozen coasters and a ton of other rides, Cedar Point is the perfect destination for friends, couples, or families. I haven’t been in a few years, but I’m planning on going this summer. 🙂
That’s all for this week, guys! I hope you like my ideas. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments. And, click here for a post with ideas for summer date nights! Talk to you all soon.
